A Life Transformed by TB Treatment

Geoffrey Michael, a portable digital X-ray imaging technician working with KNCV Nigeria, traveled to the Bwarak Community in Pankshin Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State. His visit on World Tuberculosis (TB) Day 2025 held special significance, as he reflected on this year’s theme: ‘Yes, We Can End TB – Commit, Invest, Deliver.’ He visited Mr. Golbena Pandang, a TB survivor whose journey epitomized resilience and hope. Just months ago, in November 2024, Gobena was battling severe illness, unaware that TB was the underlying cause. His future seemed uncertain until the IMPACT project team arrived in his community, offering outreach screenings and critical medical support. Diagnosed promptly, Golbena began treatment and demonstrated remarkable dedication to overcoming his condition. A Life Transformed by TB Treatment

Geoffrey Michael, a PDX Technician empowered by the IMPACT Project to deliver life-saving interventions in hard-to-reach areas of Plateau State.

Standing before Geoffrey, Golbena was a picture of health and vitality, his voice strong and his gratitude evident. He spoke of the struggles he had faced, saying,

I never thought I would see this day. But with determination and the unwavering support of the health workers, I have regained my strength and health.

Golbena expressed heartfelt thanks to the health workers and stakeholders including the Global Fund, KNCV Nigeria, and the National Tuberculosis Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme (NTBLCP)- whose tireless efforts played a pivotal role in his recovery.

Geoffrey, deeply moved by Golbena’s transformation, reflected on the progress made by the IMPACT project. The IMPACT project is driving TB case finding efforts through community outreach and screening, reaching underserved areas. It focuses on early detection and treatment, leveraging Portable Digital X-ray (PDX) technology for AI-aided and rapid TB diagnosis, while also encouraging treatment adherence and patient recovery. Its innovative approach to TB detection and treatment had improved healthcare delivery and saved lives in Plateau State.

As Geoffrey left Baraka Community, he carries Golbena’s story as a testament to the power of commitment and unity in combating TB. The theme ‘Yes, We Can End TB’ resonated deeply, reminding him that through collective dedication, the dream of eradicating TB could become a reality.
Driving back through Plateau State, Geoffrey felt a renewed sense of purpose, inspired to continue the vital work of building healthier communities and ensuring no life is lost to TB.
