The wellness on wheels mobile diagnostic  trucks in the Southern and Northern regions of the USAID TB LON Regions 1 & 2 projects recently had a level 2 biosafety cabinet installed and certified by Biosafe equipment calibrations limited, a biosafety certification company in Nigeria. The equipment was manufactured by Jinan Biobase Biotech Co., Ltd in China. With the new biosafety cabinet in place the WoW trucks laboratories are now safer and more conducive for work, it is even more poised for use not only for TB testing but for Covid-19 testing as well.

A biosafety cabinet also called a biological safety cabinet or microbiological safety cabinet is an enclosed, ventilated laboratory workspace for safely working with materials that are contaminated with or potentially contaminated with pathogens requiring a defined biosafety level. There are different types and levels used depending on the laboratory. The main purpose of a biosafety cabinet is to protect the laboratory worker and surrounding environment from pathogens (such as bacteria & viruses). The air coming out of the biosafety cabinet is filtered such that risk to the person working in the laboratory is minimized.
