The American Deputy Chief of Missions (DCM) Kathleen FitzGibbon visit to Taraba state on the 22nd of September, 2021.
The Technical Director KNCV TB foundation Nigeria Dr. Sani Useni (Representing the ED/Chief of Party KNCV TB Foundation Nigeria, Dr. Bethrand Odume) received the DCM, Kathleen FitzGibbon at the Taraba State Specialist Hospital Jalingo.
Present were the Chief Medical Direction (CMD) Taraba State Specialist Hospital (TSSH) Dr. Maiangwa Jerry, The Honorable Commissioner for Health Taraba State Dr. Vakkai Innocent Vakkai, Taraba State Director General Taraba State Action for Aids (TACA) Dr. Garba Danjuma, members of the DCM’s entourage, the Senior Program Officer KNCV Nigeria Dr. Timothy Bot and TBA Taraba.
The DCM toured the general outpatient department (GOPD) where she met with a SURGE staff Miss Magdalene Bitrus who eloquently told her what she does as a screening officer. She also met TB champions; an HCW Mallam Aminu Haruna who is also the LGTBLS of Jalingo LGA. He told her the contribution of the USAID-funded activities to TB-case finding in Taraba state. Among others he mentioned 100% OPD screening, optimizing GeneXpert machines, community outreaches, and Human resource development. She met a cured TB champion Mrs. Bilkisu Sani Bello, who gave a brief history of her illness in Hausa, which was interpreted by her husband. She narrated her KNCV assisted diagnosis, enrollment, and an eventual cure. She assured the visitor that she will continue to be an ambassador encouraging people with similar symptoms to seek the right help.
